Zero Energy Design

  • Buildings that produce as much energy as they use
  • Integrated design from day one
  • Passive strategies reduce energy demand
  • Right-sized, efficient systems
  • On-site energy generation
  • Comfortable, future-ready buildings

What Zero Energy Design Means

Zero Energy Design is about creating buildings that produce as much energy as they use over the year — through smart planning, efficient systems, and on site generation. We integrate this approach from day one so the building form, materials, and services work together, not in isolation.

How We Think About High-Performance Buildings

Here’s how we start to think about our high performance, comfortable buildings;

We Start with the Site

Let’s optimise the project through site climate analysis and careful planning

Reduce Demand First

As your Architect we do this from the start of the project to produce a highly efficient building

Use Passive Strategies

Daylight, ventilation, and thermal mass are planned in to stabilise indoor comfort and reduce loads.

Right-Size Systems

Efficient heating/cooling, hot water, and lighting are designed and selected to match the real (much reduced) energy demand.

Generate Energy On Site

Solar PV and, where appropriate, battery storage help balance energy use across the seasons. This can mean a net Zero Energy building like our office, which is net zero over the course of a year or designed for self-sufficiency. Our process is similar, as an efficient building will be easier to operate in this way.

Measure and Refine Performance

We use simple performance targets and modelling to guide decisions, then specify clear commissioning and operational steps.

The Benefits of Zero Energy Design

You can have Lower running costs and protection from energy price rises from a building with Warm, healthy interiors, stable temperatures and good air quality. We will create a Smaller carbon footprint through efficient design and low energy operation and Future ready buildings that perform for decades, not just at handover.

Applicable Across Building Types

Whether it’s your new home, a compact multi unit development or a one off light commercial project, Zero Energy Design helps deliver buildings that are comfortable, resilient, and economical to run — without relying on complexity for its own sake.

Proven in Practice

To put our money where our design principles are we have done this for our own building..!
